13/09/2011	Today we got given a brief for the unit; I got told that I had to complete a set of activity during the lesson. These activities were answering some question about the meaning of commission and to create a log. After being told this I went to a computer to complete the task I had received. When I had finished this I set up a blog to upload my work.
20/09/2011	Today my task was to make sure my blogger account was updated, my log was transferred on and that the addresses were passed on to the teacher. After this I continued to try and find a company I could to work for, I finally found a company I could work for, a flower shop in Henley. My idea consists of making a catalogue for them including the flower bouquet information which pictures and prices. I have sent I letter to them and hoping for a reply shortly.
27/09/2011	Today I was looking at the opportunity to work for the Henley festival instead of the flower shop, this is because of not hearing from the company and the uncertainty of not knowing if they will be interested enough in the project. The Henley festival have a lot to offer with their briefs they can set, the opportunity’s range from photography to advertising, the area which I am interested in is doing some photography for them to show off the type of town Henley is too interest people who are coming to the festival that Henley is a beautiful town which offers a lot more.
4/10/2011	Today after receiving my brief, I started working my way down the activity sheet. This incudes creating meeting records, question tables, proposal and brief break down. After I had completed these tables and the content in them I uploaded them onto my blog, after this I updated my log, making sure all my work is up to date.
11/10/2011	Today I concentrated on finishing all the activities of the stage 1 sheet. These activities included writing about the target audience, the strength and weaknesses of the project and finally budget. After I had completed all of these I uploaded them in order onto my blog and updated my log.
18/10/2011	Today I started on the second activity sheet, completing a good majority of it. While I was completing the sheet I was looking at production deadlines, problems that may occur during the production and safety issues. After I had completed these different activities I uploaded them onto my blog and finished the lesson with updating my log.
08/11/2011	Today I made sure my production log was up to day, explain the activities the children had done over the days and what I had been up to, after this I uploaded it onto my log, making sure I had update other documenting if needed. After this I watched a DVD sent by Mandy Beard to get inspiration for my editing of the footage I have captured.
14/11/2011	Today I improved my work after marking, I move some research into the correct activity number, added a new brief, improved the budget sheet and added email I had sent to Mandy Beard. After I update the content I went to slide share to upload the emails through a PowerPoint to blogger, after I did this successfully I updated my log.
22/11/2011	Today I updated the email power point after sending a new email to Mandy concerning the extra filming and editing I am going to complete for her. After this I started looking through footage that I had film from Trinity to start coming up with a plan of how I am going to edit all the footage and how I am going to include soundtrack without breaking copyright laws.
29/11/2011	Today I worked on finishing editing for my two short dance films I had filmed for Mandy; I needed to include the logos she sent me and the credits I need to add at the end, mentioning the people that helped with the Tree of Light project.
06/11/2011	Today I finished editing my main project the Trinity documentary for Tree of Light; I edited the footage in premiere pro and exported the edited documentary into a windows media format to then put the video onto a DVD to hand to Mandy at Henley Festival.
13/11/2011	Today I showed the Trinity DVD to my class to received feedback so I can start writing up my evaluation for commission. I wrote down everybody’s feedback, asking them what they liked and what they thought and what I need to improve on, I gathered up this information to star writing up the evaluation.
12/01/2012	Today I showed my project to Many Beard at Henley Festival, we looked at the video together to give me feedback which will help me go back and improve it. The feedback she gave me included adding more tags in the video to introduce key members of the video, other improvements included introducing the school and activity before the footage starts. I will take this feedback away, improve my video and hand it back to her.
16/01/2012	Today I handed back the re-edited movie to Mandy Beard, after this I went back and wrote up my evaluations to include the feedback from Mandy. After I completed the essays I uploaded them onto my blog and updated my log.

LO1: Commission

What is a commission?

A commission can be a special organized group that are put together to solve issues or to look into a particular matter. In finance, the term can be used differently, it is a payment expressed in a percentage for a type of service that is frequently sales oriented.

A number of workers receive part or all of their pay by earning a commission on their work. Stockbrokers, insurance brokers, salespeople, real estate agents, bankers, and many others may be entitled to a percentage of what they sell. This is sometimes the only salary a person receives or it may be a percentage of sales/deals, on top of a straight salary.

How might meetings be recorded?

A meeting may be recorded by writing it down on paper, being copied onto the computer or even recorded on a sound recorded devise and on a video camera. This is useful to have meeting recorded in these ways so you could look back at them easily to re fresh your memory on what you have said or talked about.

How might the practitioner go about generating ideas?

They might start developing ideas though many different techniques such as using a form of mind mapping to expand on different thoughts that the people may have in the group. Other techniques include research online or in books, this is to get awareness of what other people are doing and what gaps in the market the can grab. 

What information would need to be included in the proposal?

Information which I need to have is the name and type of work the company does which you are working with. Other information needed to be included is the work you are intending to do and how you are going to go about it.

Why is it important to estimate the cost of the work?

It is important to estimate the cost of the work because you can start to understand how you can work with it. There are many questions you can start asking such as how many people can I employ to help? Can I afford to buy the equipment or do I need to hire it? These are important questions to help you plan what how big your scale is to work with and how you can manage your resources to your advantange.

How might the practitioner ensure that the work comes in on budget?

The practitioner may try to stay on budget by making a budget sheet on excel. This including writing all the item you need or payment you need to make on the sheet, after this you need to research how much they are going to cost and how many of them our needed. After completing the sheet the costs need to be added up, making sure the end price is within budget the practitioner can stick to the list and that all the items are bought within a good price and that no other items are needed.

How might the practitioners receive feedback on their work?

You can receive feedback from many different members of the public, you can do this by creating a questionnaire asking them their views on their product and how it can be improved. Other methods of feedback are asking a few experts in to review the product giving more in depth feedback about the quality of it.

How might they use feedback to improve their practice when working on future commissions?
It might help the company to expand on their design or idea of the product; this will help with the final product keep to the needs of the target audience, so the company has increased sales.

The Difference between Large and Small Commissions

What are the challenges of preparing a proposal for a site-specific commission?

There are many different problems which can be brought up with find a spot to put the piece of work, firstly there is the problem of money, if the company can afford to buy the land to put the product there. Secondly restrictions of the land, many place won’t allow certain heights and weight on the land such as protected land. Thirdly and finally peoples complaints, some people may object to having the project their as it my block their view, it may be distasteful and cause some problems for the people in the area.

What kind of research would need to be done?

A lot of research would need to be done in the laws of the land and the restrictions which could be in place. Other research would include surveys for the people in the area to find out if the product would cause any problem to the people in the area.

If you were commissioning artwork for your own place of work, what would you include in the brief?

I would make sure the artist understood what type of work place the office was such as if it was fun and enthusiastic the best artwork for the place would be reflecting that mood. Another criteria I would make sure the artist knew is the space or area I would like to hold the artwork to make sure they understood what size it would be and that the piece would suit the space it was in.

What do you think of art on public transport? Have you noticed any examples in your region?

I think art in public place is a brilliant idea, it makes them are so much lighter and brings out the fun of what might have been a dull day. Taking aside the emotional aspect of the art it also encourages people to be artist and to explore that side of life, when they see artist work in the public places many people would hope that they feel inspired to do something different.

If you were asked to produce a commission for an underground or railway station what would be your first thoughts?

The first thought I would have is capturing the life of the city, including the artist ways of the young people working their way up to the top and how they are the new generation of successful people.
